Position Summary:

The Head of Benefits Strategy is tasked with formulating and executing both short-term and long-term benefits strategies. This role is also responsible for overseeing the daily operations and compliance of the benefits department. A critical aspect of this position involves collaborating with insurance carriers and underwriters to design and modify competitive and cost-effective benefit plans.

We seek a highly motivated individual with a proven track record in benefits management to lead our Employee Benefits Division. Our clientele primarily consists of small to mid-sized businesses, for whom we provide cost-efficient benefit packages encompassing medical, dental, vision, life, disability, HSA, FSA, STD, LTD, 401K, and more.

This leadership role will be pivotal in expanding the Employee Benefits Division by developing high-quality benefit plan structures and offerings while mentoring a skilled team of Benefits and Sales Associates.

The Head of Benefits Strategy is expected to stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in the benefits sector, review existing and proposed legislation, and recommend strategic actions. This role will lead the identification, development, and implementation of comprehensive benefits strategies aligned with business objectives, ensuring improved business outcomes and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and renew master benefit plans.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements, including ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, PPACA, and ERISA.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with insurance providers.
  • Direct the development of innovative health and welfare, wellness, retirement, and life and disability plans for PEO clients.
  • Collaborate with other businesses to explore strategic alternatives.
  • Oversee DecisionHR-administered Client-Sponsored Benefits.
  • Monitor the implementation of benefit technology and manage file feeds to carriers and vendors.
  • Work closely with the executive team to enhance departmental margins.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the DecisionHR team in preparing customer renewals and new business strategies.
  • Lead client-facing aspects of annual healthcare open enrollment.
  • Consult with clients to guide them in making informed and compliant choices regarding health, dental, vision, and disability benefits.
  • Manage the onboarding process for new clients.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable and audits of benefit plans.
  • Ensure compliance and administration of 401k plans.
  • Develop and manage the benefits staff.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Benefits Operations Manager, Benefits Sales/Implementation Manager

Position Type:

Full-time, 40 hours per week; minimum in-office presence required.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in a benefits-related role.
  • Bachelor's degree and over 10 years of experience in strategic benefits planning and management.
  • Minimum of 5 years of benefits experience with an insurance agency, PEO, or consulting firm.
  • Florida Health & Life Agent License (2-15).
  • Strong knowledge of compliance and reporting requirements for health and welfare plans.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills.
  • Proven ability to engage with executive-level clients.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities.
  • Effective negotiation and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS)
  • Familiarity with PEO operations is advantageous.

Travel Requirements:

Willingness to travel to client or prospect locations as necessary.
