Position Overview:

SOVAH Health in Danville, VA is seeking a Full-Time Emergency Department Technician for Night Shift (7p - 7a & EOW).

The Emergency Department Technician will:

  • Deliver direct patient care and provide technical support while collaborating with the RN and other healthcare team members.
  • Execute assigned tasks under the supervision of the RN or LPN.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions effectively to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Maintain detailed records of patient concerns and refer issues to the appropriate resources.
  • Assist the triage nurse with patient care responsibilities, including personal hygiene, nutrition, and mobility.
  • Ensure adequate supplies and cleanliness of the department.
  • Disinfect all patient contact items and areas before and after use.
  • Handle incoming calls and messages appropriately.
  • Manage clerical tasks as assigned by the charge nurse.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Skills:

  • Critical thinking and decisive judgment are essential.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and following directions accurately.
  • Strong organizational skills and efficient work habits are necessary.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care are essential.
  • Ability to respond calmly and quickly in emergencies.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required, including availability for weekends and holidays.

Certifications:

  • Current certification as an EMT from Virginia or North Carolina (or military equivalent).
  • Active, unrestricted Certified Nurses' Aide (CNA) certification from the Virginia Board of Nursing is required.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is necessary.
  • Applicants with military equivalent must complete state-approved EMT or CNA certification within 12 months of hire.

Experience:

  • Previous experience as an ED Technician, EMT, or CNA in an Emergency Department setting is preferred.
