Position Overview:
Sovah Health in Danville, VA is looking for a Full-Time Emergency Department Technician to work Night Shifts (7 PM - 7 AM, including weekends).
The Emergency Department Technician will:
- Deliver direct patient care and provide technical support while collaborating with RNs and other healthcare team members.
- Perform assigned duties under the supervision of an RN or LPN.
- Document all patient care activities accurately.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions effectively to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
- Maintain thorough and precise records of patient concerns and refer issues to the appropriate resources.
- Assist the triage nurse with patient care tasks, including personal hygiene, nutrition, and mobility.
- Ensure adequate supplies and cleanliness of the department.
- Clean and disinfect patient areas and equipment before and after use.
- Handle incoming calls and messages appropriately.
- Manage clerical tasks as assigned by the charge nurse.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Required Skills:
- Strong critical thinking abilities and sound judgment.
- Capability to work independently in high-pressure situations.
- Proficient reading and writing skills for accurate communication.
- Effective organizational skills for efficient task management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care.
- Ability to respond swiftly and calmly in emergencies.
- Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Certifications:
- Current certification as an EMT from Virginia or North Carolina (or military equivalent).
- Active, unrestricted Certified Nurses' Aide (CNA) certification from the Virginia Board of Nursing.
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Those hired based on military equivalent must complete state-approved EMT or CNA certification within 12 months of hire.
Experience:
- Previous experience as an ED Technician, EMT, or CNA in an emergency setting is preferred.
