Role Summary:

Sovah Health in Danville, VA is in search of a Full-Time Emergency Department Technician for Night Shift (7p - 7a & EOW).

The ED Technician will:

Provide direct patient support, technical assistance, and contribute to care planning through effective communication with the RN and other healthcare team members.

Under the guidance of the RN or LPN, perform assigned technical duties relevant to the designated area.

Document patient care activities.

Monitor, record, and relay patient conditions as necessary to the care team, physician, patient, and family.

Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of patient concerns or medical history and refer issues to the appropriate resources for resolution.

Assist the triage nurse with patient care responsibilities, including personal hygiene, nutrition, and mobility.

Ensure adequate inventory of supplies, functioning equipment, and cleanliness of the department.

Sanitize rooms, equipment, surfaces, stretchers, and all items in contact with patients before and after use.

Handle incoming calls and messages appropriately.

Manage clerical tasks as required by the charge nurse.


Essential Qualifications:

Educational Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.

Required Skills:

  • Critical thinking abilities, sound judgment, and capacity to work independently.
  • Ability to function effectively in a high-pressure environment.
  • Proficient in reading and writing clearly and executing instructions promptly and accurately.
  • Strong organizational skills with effective and efficient work habits.
  • Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
  • Ability to respond swiftly and calmly in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, with the ability to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, to ensure continuous care for patients.

Certifications:

  • Current certification as an EMT from Virginia or North Carolina (or military equivalent).
  • Active, unrestricted Certified Nurses' Aide (CNA) certification from the Virginia Board of Nursing is required.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Applicants with military equivalent must complete state-approved OEMS requirements for EMT or Virginia Board of Nursing Certification for CNA within 12 months of hire.

Experience:

  • Previous experience as an ED Technician, EMT, or CNA in an Emergency Department setting is preferred.
