Position Overview:

SOVAH Health in Danville, VA is seeking a Full-Time Emergency Department Technician for Night Shift (7p - 7a & EOW).

The ED Technician will:

  • Deliver direct patient care and provide technical support while collaborating with the RN and other healthcare team members.
  • Perform assigned technical duties under the supervision of an RN or LPN.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions effectively to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Maintain detailed records of patient concerns and direct issues to the appropriate resources for resolution.
  • Assist the triage nurse with patient care tasks, including personal hygiene, nutrition, and mobility.
  • Ensure the availability of supplies and maintain cleanliness and functionality of equipment.
  • Disinfect rooms, equipment, and all patient contact items before and after use.
  • Manage incoming calls and messages efficiently.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned by the charge nurse.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Required Skills:

  • Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently are essential.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment and respond appropriately.
  • Proficient reading and writing skills to follow directions accurately.
  • Strong organizational skills to work effectively and efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
  • Capability to provide age-appropriate care to patients.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond swiftly in emergency situations.
  • Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate all shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Certifications:

  • Current certification as an EMT from Virginia or North Carolina (or military equivalent).
  • Active, unrestricted Certified Nurses' Aide (CNA) certification from the Virginia Board of Nursing is required.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
  • Those hired based on military equivalent must complete state-approved requirements for EMT or CNA certification within 12 months of hire.

Experience:

  • Previous experience as an ED Technician, EMT, or CNA in an Emergency Department setting is preferred.
