Position Overview:
An exciting opportunity is available at Barnes Group for a Buyer in the Force and Motion Control SBU. The successful candidate will oversee the tactical, daily interactions with both domestic and international suppliers for items stocked in AS Raymond warehouses. This role is pivotal in optimizing inventory turnover while minimizing obsolete stock and inventory write-offs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the inventory status for designated commodities and maintain supplier relationships.
  • Manage an inventory portfolio valued between $3 - $5 million, ensuring a first-pass fill rate of 98%.
  • Evaluate and act on purchasing recommendations from the materials management system, including generating and communicating Purchase Orders to suppliers.
  • Lead global contract negotiations and manage long-term agreements to meet total cost objectives.
  • Monitor daily fill rate performance and initiate corrective measures as necessary.
  • Engage with suppliers regarding shipping performance, open Purchase Orders, and other pertinent issues.
  • Manage inventory levels, including obsolete and excess stock.
  • Address issues related to shipments, receiving discrepancies, and packaging standards.
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies with suppliers.
  • Facilitate communication of service and inventory concerns across various departments, including Purchasing, Marketing, Operations, and Finance.
  • Approve or deny upcoming shipments from suppliers.
  • Manage requisitions and provide regular updates on order statuses.
  • Travel approximately 10% for supplier visits, training seminars, and other related activities.
  • Complete additional projects as assigned by the Supply Chain Manager.
  • Adhere to the Barnes Group Code of Business Ethics and Conduct.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in inventory management, materials, or a related field with increasing responsibilities.
  • Experience with materials management systems in a distribution context.
  • Familiarity with a distribution environment that handles a wide range of SKUs.
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, or a related discipline.
  • APICS/CPIM certification is preferred.
