An exciting opportunity exists at Barnes Group for a Buyer in its Force and Motion Control SBU. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operational relationship with both domestic and international suppliers for inventory items.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage inventory levels for designated commodities and maintain supplier relationships.
- Oversee inventory valued between $3 - $5 million, ensuring a fill rate of 98%.
- Analyze purchase recommendations from the materials management system, generate Purchase Orders, and maintain communication with suppliers.
- Lead global contract negotiations and manage long-term agreements to meet total cost objectives.
- Monitor daily fill rate performance and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding shipping performance, open Purchase Orders, and other related issues.
- Manage obsolete and excess inventory effectively.
- Resolve issues related to shipments, packaging standards, and invoices.
- Collaborate with various departments, including Purchasing, Marketing, Operations, and Finance, to address service and inventory challenges.
- Approve or deny shipments from suppliers and manage requisitions with regular updates on order status.
- Travel approximately 10% for supplier visits and training as required.
- Engage in additional projects as assigned by the Supply Chain Manager.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in inventory management or related fields with increasing responsibilities.
- Familiarity with materials management systems in a distribution context.
- Experience in environments with a diverse range of SKUs.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, or a related discipline.
- APICS/CPIM certification is preferred.
