Job Summary

As a Licensed Vocational Nurse with Alameda Health System, you will provide high-quality patient care in a dynamic and supportive environment. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, you will administer medications, perform various nursing procedures, and assist physicians with examinations and medical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Administer care according to designated instructions and nursing care plans, including irrigating eyes, ears, nose, and other areas, applying dressings to wounds, and giving enemas.
  2. Assist physicians/clinicians in examinations and medical/clinical procedures, preparing patients for examinations and positioning them as required.
  3. Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity and rights of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  4. Identify patient care problems and communicate them to the RN, monitoring telemetry units and alerting primary nurse staff of changes in underlying rhythms and life-threatening arrhythmias.
  5. Maintain current knowledge/certification/licensure per hospital policy and pursue professional growth and development.
  6. Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of data collected, including patients' vital signs and I&Os.
  7. Provide bedside care, including bathing, changing patients' clothing, and other patient hygiene procedures, turning patients to prevent bed sores, and assisting patients in special equipment such as respirators and rocking beds.
  8. Read patient charts and records to note condition of patients and treatments, medications, special diets, and procedures ordered by physicians.
Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited LVN program, with a valid license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of California. ACLS, BLS, and other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
