Position Overview:

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer based in Sunnyvale, CA. In this role, you will facilitate the manufacturing and testing of marine propulsion and power generation systems, focusing on various manufacturing processes for high-value gearing and steam turbine assemblies, machined components, and welded fabrications. Your primary objective will be to enhance the capabilities of manufacturing tools and machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the operation of capital machinery, with a specialization in machine tool systems (milling, boring, turning, hobbing, grinding).
  • Enhance equipment performance by implementing new capabilities, including developing solutions to increase throughput and reduce cycle times through new tooling components/systems and control systems upgrades.
  • Diagnose machine failures to minimize downtime, collaborating with machine maintenance teams and equipment OEMs.
  • Support new capital procurement and design the arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure the most efficient and productive layout.
  • Adapt machine or equipment design to align with factory and production conditions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) with 5+ years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of relevant experience; or a PhD with no experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment as a process owner (process, equipment, documentation, special training).
  • Hands-on experience in machining and troubleshooting machines or working in a machine shop environment.
  • Familiarity with machine tool equipment and control systems (large CNC mills, lathes, hobbers, and grinders).
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an integrated team, including skilled machinists, engineers, and management.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Willingness to support multiple shifts as required.
  • Eligibility to obtain a security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in machine tool design and maintenance.
  • Proficient in programming CNC lathes, mills, and/or grinders.

Salary Range: $97,500 - $146,300
The above salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. Additionally, Northrop Grumman offers a variety of benefits, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plans, company-paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
