Position Overview:
As a Surface Finishing Technician, you will work under the close guidance of the finishing lead and department supervisor to execute various grit blasting, water blasting, and grinding tasks aimed at eliminating casting imperfections and enhancing the surface quality of welded castings.

Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to established process control and quality standards for finishing tasks.
  • Interpret and follow shop traveler instructions accurately.
  • Operate both manual and automated grit blasting equipment along with handheld pneumatic and bench grinding tools.
  • Utilize sandblast and waterblast machinery effectively.
  • Select the appropriate tools for routine surface finishing, including scraping and deburring, to rectify visual casting flaws.
  • Manipulate tools or components to eliminate excess metal, and perform basic dimensional inspections as necessary.
  • Prepare areas with casting defects for welding repairs by creating suitable cavities through grinding.
  • Exercise caution during handling and operation to prevent surface damage, cracking, or overstressing of components, ensuring adherence to required finishes and tolerances.
  • Identify and report defective parts or any unusual conditions to the lead or supervisor.
  • Carry out assigned tasks within your training and capabilities to achieve daily production targets.
  • Comply with all safety protocols and wear personal protective equipment as specified in the Hazard Assessment Form for the role.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and equipment.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 35 lbs.

Required Skills:
  • Proficient communication skills in English, both written and verbal; ability to read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and drawings.
  • Basic mathematical skills for calculations.
  • Ability to work independently and troubleshoot issues.
  • Capacity to work in challenging environments with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature variations for extended periods.
  • Good judgment to plan and execute tasks within standard procedures.
  • Strong eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity for operating grinding tools, requiring continuous attention.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment for finishing and grinding tasks.

Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED.
