Principal Metallurgist

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Metallurgist to join our team at Howmet Aerospace. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading metallurgical analysis, material characterization, and testing to ensure the quality and performance of our products.

• Conduct metallurgical analysis and material characterization to identify and solve problems related to material properties, processing, and performance.
• Develop and implement new processes and procedures to improve product quality, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop new products, including materials selection, processing, and testing.
• Provide technical expertise and support to internal and external customers, including training and technical documentation.
• Stay up-to-date with industry developments and advancements in metallurgy and materials science, and apply this knowledge to improve our products and processes.

• Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science with 5+ years of experience.
• Strong background in metallurgy, materials science, and failure analysis.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Experience with advanced analytical techniques, including SEM/EDS, EBSD microscopy, and metallography.
• Familiarity with surface engineering techniques, such as cleaning, plating, and finishing.

• Experience with quality control testing in a regulatory environment.
• Litigation consulting experience.
• Electrochemical corrosion testing experience.
