Position Overview: We are in search of skilled Fiber Splicers who play a vital role in ensuring timely delivery and high-quality telecommunications services for our clients. Key responsibilities include interpreting schematics and diagrams to splice, terminate, and test fiber-optic connections for both new installations and service setups. The role also encompasses the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of damaged cables and related issues within the outside plant network.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and maintain both new and existing fiber-optic systems.
- Prepare and splice single-mode (SM) and multi-mode (MM) optical fiber cables, including single, ribbon, and loose tube types.
- Terminate fiber using various connectors or pigtails.
- Conduct testing of fiber using OTDR, OLTS, Power Meters, and VFL.
- Install necessary splice capsules and hardware.
- Perform mid-sheath cable entries and splice fibers in active networks.
- Maintain existing infrastructure without causing signal interruptions.
- Respond to network outages, performing necessary troubleshooting and repairs.
- Keep accurate records of project progress, including production sheets, time sheets, and customer documentation.
- Maintain splice equipment, trailers, and vehicles.
- Complete certification testing of fiber optic systems.
- Adhere to safety standards, including those set by OSHA, NESC, NEC, and other relevant regulations.
- Stay informed about organizational policies and governmental regulations.
- Ensure a safe work environment by following CCI's policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Preferred 2+ years of experience in fiber splicing and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of fiber optic theory, including fiber loss, connector types, and various fiber types.
- Experience with both ribbon fiber and loose tube, including deribbonizing and ribbonizing.
- Ability to test fiber using OTDR, OLTS, Power Meters, and VFL.
- Familiarity with single and mass fusion splicing machines.
- Ability to differentiate between various fiber sizes and colors.
- Capability to read splicing matrices and test fiber in diverse environments such as FTTH, underground, and aerial.
- Experience placing aerial and underground splice closures.
- Efficiently manage workload within specified timeframes while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Proficient in prioritizing tasks and adapting schedules to meet changing requirements.
- Able to identify safety issues and work independently.
- Document testing per customer specifications.
- Complete daily production reports to record work performed.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficient in MS Office and various web-based software.
- Self-motivated and reliable with keen attention to detail.
Time Requirements:
- Willingness to travel up to 75%, which may include overnight stays depending on location and region.
- Maintenance of customer networks may require working outside regular business hours, including evenings and overnight shifts.
- Potential on-call responsibilities on a rotational basis, including nights and weekends.
General Information:
- Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must be able to pass a DOT physical examination.
- Compensation is piece rate after initial training and ability to work independently.
- Must provide personal hand tools to complete job functions; specialty tools will be supplied.
- Willingness to work indoors in confined spaces and poorly ventilated areas, as well as outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Able to work at heights of up to 50' using bucket trucks, ladders, or climbing utility poles.
- Mechanically inclined and capable of using hand tools and equipment for assigned projects.
- Maintain a professional demeanor with colleagues and clients.
- Present a clean, neat, and professional appearance.
Compensation: This is an hourly position to start, transitioning to piece rate once trained, with a range of approximately $52,000-$140,000.
