Automation Design Engineer - Industrial Machinery

Cogs has partnered with a renowned furnace manufacturing company that has been a leader in the industry for 70 years. This partnership has led to a significant increase in demand for their products, resulting in the need for a highly skilled automation design engineer to join their technical department.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing automated machinery in a high-heat environment. A successful candidate should have experience with sensors, interlocking, and material handling systems, as well as familiarity with high-speed automation and controlling heaters. PLC programming skills, including writing and fixing programs, are also essential.

This position involves hands-on design work, schematics, and thermal interaction, as well as regular interaction with plumbing, mechanical, motors & drives. The position is based in Newark, New Jersey, and is full-time on-site with some flexibility for personal appointments and family needs.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Automation and controls
  • PLC programming, including writing and fixing programs
  • Design work and schematics
  • Hands-on experience with sensors, interlocking, and material handling systems
  • Familiarity with high-speed automation and controlling heaters

Industry Experience:

  • Preferred background in the plastic extrusion industry and customized material handling
  • Experience with high-temperature manufacturing environments - furnaces and relevant industries like metals, ceramics, material science, etc.

Experience Level:

  • Absolute minimum of 5+ (10+ preferred) years of experience in programming, automation, electrical engineering, and controls

Salary Range:

  • $100,000 to $120,000, depending on experience and training needs
