Position Overview

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Hospice Aide is responsible for delivering personal care, homemaking support, and specific nursing tasks for patients and their families under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Current CNA certification in the relevant state
  • At least six (6) months of experience as a CNA or Home Health Aide
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare professionals is required. Employees must comply with certification requirements as outlined by the organization.
  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance as per company policy
  • Reliable transportation to fulfill work obligations
  • Ability to operate equipment with visual and auditory functions
  • Proficient communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Capacity to manage the emotional challenges of caring for patients and their families
  • Ability to perform essential physical tasks of the role, including lifting and moving patients and equipment
  • Must be able to access various home or facility environments, including navigating stairs and confined spaces
  • Willingness to interact with individuals with communicable diseases

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain required competencies and contact hours as mandated by the organization.
  • Deliver patient and caregiver services as outlined in the Aide/Caregiver Plan of Care.
  • Implement safe body mechanics while assisting with patient mobility and transfers.
  • Aid patients and caregivers in sustaining a clean and secure living environment.
  • Provide relief for caregivers as specified in the Plan of Care.
  • Transport necessary supplies and documents as directed by the RN.
  • Under RN supervision, assist with activities that promote daily living.
  • Contribute to the Plan of Care by sharing observations with the RN.
  • Report significant issues or symptoms to the RN or Clinical Manager.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

To fulfill the essential functions of this position, the following abilities are necessary: visual acuity, auditory perception, verbal communication, ambulation, and manual dexterity.

Frequent requirements include: safely transferring and assisting patients; standing; sitting; reaching; lifting; bending; pulling; pushing; and balancing.

Occasional requirements may involve: stooping; crouching; kneeling; and climbing stairs.

This position is subject to drug and/or alcohol testing following a conditional employment offer, in addition to ongoing compliance with the Drug-Free Workplace Policy.
