Position Overview

As a Certified Medication Aide, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective administration of medications and treatments to our residents. This position demands meticulous documentation on medication records and resident charts, fostering trust and confidence among the resident population. It is essential to operate within your professional scope and seek management support when faced with uncertainties.

Educational Requirements

Some High School education is required.

Experience Requirements

On-the-job training will be provided.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Current, active, and unrestricted Certified Medication Aide Certification and CPR certification are mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

A high school diploma is preferred. Previous experience is advantageous but not essential. A willingness to work with the elderly population is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer medications and treatments as per the established schedule, adhering to medication administration protocols.
  • Document on the 24-hour communication reports accurately.
  • Understand and appropriately record the resident alert status.
  • Implement interim service plans in the absence of the Charge Nurse or Unit Manager as care needs arise.
  • Ensure caregivers on shift are informed of any changes in interim service plans.
  • Notify the Charge Nurse or Unit Manager of any changes in resident conditions.
  • Assist with the maintenance of monthly medication records.
  • Support the cycle fill or re-ordering of medications as necessary.
  • Monitor and return medications for credit when required.
  • Oversee medications received from the pharmacy.
  • Promptly report any discrepancies to the pharmacy.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and restocking of the medication room and cart.
  • Order supplies as directed by the Charge Nurse.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques or learn to assist with various medical equipment as instructed.
  • Take accurate vital signs and weights.
  • Initiate medication error reports when necessary.
  • Serve as a Certified Nursing Assistant when required.
  • Assist with the care needs of residents, including lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Support meal service and assist with table settings and post-meal clean-up as assigned.
  • Communicate with the pharmacy to order medications and follow up on outstanding orders.
  • Respond to call lights or coordinate with a partner to ensure timely responses during medication administration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Assist residents with transportation and appointments as needed.
  • Review the 24-hour communication book and respond to issues accordingly.
  • Examine incident reports and monitor residents on alert status.
  • Read and understand any new interim care plans.
  • Provide medications and treatments to residents following established protocols.
  • Document medication administration accurately in resident records.
  • Notify the Charge Nurse, Unit Manager, or Administrator of any arising issues.
  • Perform general record-keeping and filing tasks as required.
