Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Behavioral Support Specialist to join our team at Beam. As a Behavioral Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct support to students with special needs, promoting their social, emotional, and academic growth.
• Participate in activities planned by the school district staff, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.
• Assist in the preparation and development of instructional training activities and materials, aligning with the school district's goals.
• Collaborate with school district staff to maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment, promoting a positive learning atmosphere.
• Under direct supervision, assist with assessing student needs, providing valuable insights to support their development.
• Work with students individually, in small groups, or whole groups, providing instruction and support to meet their unique needs.
• May assist with classroom technology, adaptive devices, and equipment, ensuring seamless integration into the learning process.
• Assist with social skills development, toileting, diapering, dressing, and hygiene, promoting students' independence and self-care.
• Maintain an organized and clutter-free restroom and/or changing area, ensuring a safe and healthy environment.
• Administer emergency treatment when necessary, prioritizing students' well-being.
• May take children on outings, promoting socialization and community engagement.
• May assist children with feeding themselves, fostering independence and self-care skills.
• May be assigned to multiple school locations, requiring flexibility and adaptability.
• Assist with playground supervision, ensuring students' safety and engagement during outdoor activities.
• Work cooperatively with students, school district staff, and administration, promoting a positive and inclusive team environment.
• Reinforce lessons and activities with small groups of learners, supporting their academic and social growth.
• Assist school staff in crisis intervention and discipline, prioritizing students' safety and well-being.
• Participate in program planning meetings, contributing to the development of effective support strategies.
• Perform other job-related work as required, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to excellence.

Requirements:

• Ability to understand and anticipate the needs of children, providing empathetic and supportive care.
• Operate classroom technology equipment, ensuring seamless integration into the learning process.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions, prioritizing students' safety and well-being.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with children and adults, promoting a positive and inclusive team environment.
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality, upholding the highest standards of care and support.
• Show competence and assist with academic skills, such as reading and math, promoting students' academic growth.
• Communicate orally with correct language usage, ensuring clear and effective communication.

Qualifications:

• Proof of High School Diploma or equivalency; or proof of an A.A. degree, 48 college units; or pass the Paraeducator Exam.
• Recent experience in working with groups, such as youth groups, child centers, or playgrounds, and/or experience requiring organizational skills is desirable.

Working Environment:

• Occasional exposure to the sun, occasional wetness, dust, and occasional exposure to childhood diseases.

Requirements/Conditions of Employment:

• Resume
• Complete a mandatory Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) Training (Provided)
• Complete mandatory training as designated by Beam

Schedule:

• Mornings
• Monday to Friday
• No weekends

Ability to commute/relocate:

• Montebello Unified School District
• Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
• Your assignment might vary from district to district and school to school

Experience:

• Behavioral Therapist/Interventionist: 1 year (Required)
