Position Overview:

Are you passionate about overseeing critical development initiatives for automated testing solutions utilized by defense personnel worldwide?

The Mission Systems division at Raytheon Technologies is seeking a dedicated Principal Project Engineer to spearhead diverse engineering teams, including systems, mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, in the creation of intricate engineering solutions. The Test Engineering team plays a pivotal role within the Mission Systems Services Organization, focusing on the design, development, and upkeep of manufacturing test solutions. As a vital member of this team, you will ensure the effective execution of test solution projects from conception through to customer deployment and ongoing support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze contracts and statements of work to define project scope and identify team capability gaps.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation and data submissions for clients.
  • Develop work breakdown structures (WBS) to create proposals and project management bids for medium to high complexity projects.
  • Collaborate with program and technical project managers to formulate execution plans and responsibilities, ensuring adherence to budget and schedule.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary engineering team through all technical aspects of projects.
  • Utilize integrated project management, earned value, and risk management methodologies.
  • Coordinate contributions from various hardware and software engineers and support teams.
  • Facilitate design reviews for test equipment and ensure proper documentation is generated.
  • Act as the Cost Account Manager (CAM) for multiple projects, tracking and analyzing earned value metrics to assess program performance and recommend staffing or schedule adjustments.
  • Understand the interrelation of projects within the broader development landscape and create strategic plans to optimize investments across the business unit.
  • Contribute to the Project Engineer Community of Practice.
  • Mentor junior Project Engineers and functional engineers.
  • Serve as an authority on production and service test equipment, applying principles across various testing areas.

Required Qualifications:
  • A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree with at least 5 years of experience, or 12 years of relevant experience without a degree.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance eligibility.
  • A minimum of five years of project leadership experience with multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing customer relationships.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Earned Value management.
  • Knowledge of Risk and Opportunity management.
  • Three years of experience in developing or maintaining automated test equipment.
  • Strong technical background in at least one engineering discipline: systems, mechanical, electrical, or software.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective customer relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency in developing and managing schedules using Microsoft Project.
