Position Overview:

Are you ready to take on a pivotal role in the development of automated testing solutions for critical defense systems? At Raytheon Technologies, we are seeking a dedicated Principal Project Engineer to spearhead cross-functional teams in delivering advanced engineering solutions.

About the Role:
The Principal Project Engineer will play a vital role within the Mission Systems Test Engineering division, ensuring the successful management of test solution projects from conception through to customer deployment and ongoing support. This position involves leading a diverse team of engineers across various disciplines, including systems, mechanical, electrical, and software engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze contracts and statements of work to define project scope and identify team capabilities.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive technical documentation to clients.
  • Develop work breakdown structures (WBS) for project proposals and management bids for complex engineering projects.
  • Collaborate with program and technical project managers to formulate execution plans, ensuring adherence to budget and timelines.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary engineering team through all technical aspects of projects.
  • Utilize integrated project management, earned value, and risk management methodologies.
  • Coordinate contributions from hardware and software engineers and support teams.
  • Oversee design reviews for test equipment and ensure proper documentation is generated.
  • Act as the Cost Account Manager (CAM) for multiple projects, tracking and analyzing earned value metrics to assess program performance.
  • Understand the interdependencies of projects within the broader development landscape and create strategic plans to optimize resource allocation.
  • Contribute to the Project Engineer Community of Practice and mentor junior engineers.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on production and service test equipment.

Required Qualifications:
  • A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 5 years of experience, or 12 years of relevant experience without a degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance eligibility.
  • Five years of experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing client relationships.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Earned Value Management.
  • Familiarity with Risk and Opportunity Management.
  • Three years of experience in developing or maintaining automated test equipment.
  • Strong technical knowledge in systems, mechanical, electrical, or software engineering.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to build effective customer relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project for schedule development and maintenance.
