Position Overview:

Are you ready to take on a pivotal role in mission-critical development projects for automated testing solutions that support our global defense forces?

The Test Engineering division at Raytheon Technologies is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role of Principal Project Engineer. In this capacity, you will lead diverse teams of engineers across various disciplines—including systems, mechanical, electrical, and software—to create intricate engineering solutions. As a vital member of our team, you will oversee the successful delivery of testing solution projects from initial concept through to customer deployment and ongoing support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze contracts and statements of work to define project scope and identify team capabilities.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive technical documentation to clients.
  • Develop work breakdown structures (WBS) to facilitate proposals and project management bids for complex development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with program and technical project managers to formulate execution plans and responsibilities, ensuring adherence to budget and timelines.
  • Lead a multidisciplinary engineering team in all technical aspects of projects.
  • Implement integrated project management, earned value, and risk management methodologies.
  • Coordinate contributions from various engineering and support teams.
  • Conduct design reviews for test equipment and ensure the creation of necessary design documentation.
  • Act as the Cost Account Manager (CAM) for multiple projects, tracking and analyzing earned value metrics to inform staffing and scheduling adjustments.
  • Understand the interrelation of projects within the broader development framework and strategize to maximize resource investments.
  • Contribute to the Project Engineer Community of Practice.
  • Mentor junior engineers and functional team members.
  • Serve as an authority on production and service testing equipment, applying expertise across various testing domains.

Required Qualifications:
  • A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 5 years of experience, or 12 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance eligibility.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing client relationships.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Earned Value Management.
  • Familiarity with Risk and Opportunity Management.
  • At least 3 years of experience in developing or maintaining automated testing equipment.
  • Strong technical background in systems, mechanical, electrical, or software engineering.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and practices.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain effective client relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project for schedule development and maintenance.
