Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Distribution Operator to join our team at the City of Boulder. As a key member of our Utilities Maintenance team, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining our large water distribution system, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of water to our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain water distribution system infrastructure, including water mains, valves, fire hydrants, and service lines.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment and facilities.
  • Respond to emergency situations, such as water main breaks and leaks.
  • Collaborate with other teams and agencies to ensure efficient and effective maintenance and repair of the water distribution system.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 6 months of experience in utilities operations and maintenance or construction (water) required.
  • Must be certified as State of Colorado Class 1 Water Distribution System Operator within 9 months of hire.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License Class A within 9 months of hire and once obtained, maintain in good standing.
  • Ability to obtain certification for backhoe and loader under the Equipment Operator's Certification and Training Program within one year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in heavy construction.
  • Ability to use computers and other technology.
  • ATSSA or equivalent certification as a traffic flagger and as a Traffic Control Technician (TCT).
  • First Aid/CPR certified through Red Cross or equivalent accredited institution.
  • Experience with snow operations including operating tandem with plow and spreader.
Working Conditions and Requirements
  • Ability to work in and around moving traffic and equipment; in areas of limited access; and confined spaces requiring standing, walking, bending, and kneeling.
  • Requires upper body strength to lift and carry equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Works year-round in an outdoor environment and at times in adverse weather conditions, such as rain, wind, heat, cold, and snow.
  • Works in an industrial setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises.
