Job Title: Professor of Practice

Job Summary:

The University of North Texas System is seeking a Professor of Practice in Advocacy to join our team. As a Professor of Practice, you will be responsible for planning and organizing events involving 30 or more participants, coordinating, training, and supervising coaches, and mentoring and coaching trial advocates and students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and manage the School of Law's advocacy programs, including the competition teams such as Mock Trial, Moot Court, and others.
  • Perform service as a member of the College of Law faculty.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and the Director of Experiential Programs in evaluating the College of Law's current advocacy skills program and developing a vision and plan for this aspect of the College of Laws curriculum.
  • Coach and teach students in these programs and any other courses related thereto as well as in the Advocacy Skills Development course and other related courses as needed.
  • Create and monitor budgets for the Mock Trial, Moot Court, and any other external competition programs.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise coaches for the College of Laws advocacy competition teams.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor and two years of practice experience; or Juris Doctor and equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Proven interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to effectively, professionally, and tactfully interact with others.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate institutional needs.
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work under pressure, to adjust to a changing environment that is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions within the framework of broad goals and objectives.
  • Ability to conceptualize, plan, and organize multiple programs and assignments effectively.
  • Ability to work on complex and confidential tasks utilizing judgment, tact, and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to research, gather data, compile information, and accurately prepare reports.
  • Ability to engage in critical thinking and exercise independent judgment.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students or in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with moot court, mock trial, or other law school competition team, either as a student or a coach.
