Position Overview:
This role involves working as a Vascular Ultrasound Specialist on a per diem basis, offering flexible hours and on-call rotational coverage as needed.
Work Environment:
Located within the University of Miami Hospital's Vascular Lab, this position is integral to coordinating and managing patient scheduling and flow for interdepartmental procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervise and perform diagnostic imaging studies under the guidance of a Clinical Vascular Lab Attending or Fellow.
2. Assist in the education and training of new medical professionals.
3. Collaborate with Clinical Vascular Attendings and PhD professionals to develop innovative protocols and ultrasound imaging techniques.
4. Engage in research initiatives and contribute to the formulation of research protocols.
5. Act as a team leader regularly, ensuring smooth operation within the lab.
6. Monitor and verify the accuracy of charging for ultrasound procedures and supplies.
7. Conduct demonstrations of ultrasound equipment for visiting physicians and administrators.
8. Provide in-service training sessions within the department.
Patient Interaction:
1. Review and assess ultrasound scan orders to ensure appropriateness and compliance with physician recommendations.
2. Establish rapport with patients to identify service requirements and verify patient identification.
3. Ensure necessary consents and patient education are obtained prior to procedures.
Technical Proficiency:
1. Operate ultrasound scanners and related equipment, adhering to prescribed safety protocols.
2. Integrate diagnostic and laboratory results with patient history to adapt examinations as necessary.
3. Maintain high standards of ultrasound quality by following established protocols.
4. Position patients appropriately for ultrasound scans while ensuring their comfort and safety.
5. Prepare and administer contrast agents in accordance with established protocols.
Documentation and Compliance:
1. Schedule patient procedures and assist with clerical duties.
2. Maintain accurate patient records and charge procedures in the relevant systems.
3. Report any unusual findings to the appropriate medical personnel promptly.
4. Adhere to all regulatory guidelines governing the modality.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography and/or Vascular program.
Certifications:
Vascular Ultrasound Certification, RVT (Registered Vascular Tech) by ARDMS, RVS (Registered Vascular Sonographer) by CCI.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the field.
Skills:
Attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and proficiency in computer software applications.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
