Job Summary

As a key member of the Nicklaus Children's Health System team, the Vascular Ultrasound Specialist will perform non-invasive vascular procedures and general diagnostic ultrasound examinations within the department and on the nursing units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produces high-quality diagnostic scans and recognizes visible anatomical structures.
  • Assists in minor surgical procedures, such as biopsies and cyst aspirations.
  • Trains new employees and ensures adequate clinical history is available for ultrasound examinations.
  • Maintains records of examinations and schedules cases to coordinate with other examinations.
  • Performs all ultrasound examinations, including vascular studies, and completes required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Adjusts equipment, determines proper technique, and arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain correct patient position.
  • Communicates effectively with hospital employees, physicians, and patients.
  • Problem solves issues with equipment and reports any equipment problems/malfunctions to clinical engineering or supervisor as needed.
  • Follows hospital patient-identification policy and verifies two patient identifiers to ensure the right patient and correct procedure.
  • Observes safety practices at all times and adheres to all clean sweep guidelines and infection control standards.
  • Performs QA, completes exam, enters and transmits patient information into PACS in a timely manner.
  • Performs portable examinations in operating room, emergency department, and in-patient rooms.
  • Accurately performs ultrasound procedure protocols as required.
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of equipment, monitoring inventory, and stocking scan room.
  • Contacts Physician with results for all STAT cases within 1 hour.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed an accredited course in ultrasound technology.
  • American Heart Association BLS must be maintained active and in good standing throughout employment.
  • Amer Regis Diag Med Sonography must be maintained active and in good standing throughout employment.
  • RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) must be maintained active and in good standing throughout employment.
  • 1-3 years Vascular and pediatric ultrasound experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Florida general Radiology Technologist License is preferred.
  • Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, and co-workers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to problem solve to adapt standard clinical procedures to the individual client's need.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound procedure protocols.
