Job Title: Special Education Resource Teacher

Mobile County Public School System is seeking a highly qualified Special Education Resource Teacher to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Special Education Resource Teacher will provide support to students with special needs, supervising LEA compliance with state and federal laws and guidelines. This role will also involve attending eligibility/initial Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings, monitoring special education records and confidentiality procedures, and assisting principals in monitoring IEP implementation and 90-day timeline.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise LEA compliance with state and federal laws and guidelines.
  • Attend eligibility/initial Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings in assigned schools as needed.
  • Monitor special education records and confidentiality procedures.
  • Monitor completion of Data Verification forms in assigned schools.
  • Monitor and report data for tracking systems.
  • Assist principals in monitoring IEP implementation and 90-day timeline.
  • Monitor confidentiality procedures in local schools.
  • Plan for Extended School Year (ESY) Services, including allocation of personnel, curriculum development, purchasing of materials, developing a budget, and in-services.
  • Complete review of students' ESY Individual Education Plans and monitor sites.
  • Assist teachers in monitoring transition of exceptional students to regular class.
  • Assist the Executive Director of Special Services in planning programs of instruction for exceptional students.
  • Assist in the formulation of instructional objectives that are consistent with the school board's education goals and in keeping with the needs of students assigned to special classes.
  • Assist in the preparation of curricular materials appropriate to the needs of exceptional students.
  • Develop and disseminate resource units, teaching guides, and other materials to facilitate program implementation.
  • Arrange transfers and transportation when needed for exceptional students.
  • Provide leadership and supervisory services to local schools in program implementation.
  • Work with principals to monitor classrooms and arrange conferences relative to program improvement.
  • Assist principals and teachers in working cooperatively with parents.
  • Complete formal observations upon request.
  • Conduct and attend in-services and workshops related to special education.
Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, applicants must have a Master's degree in Administration or Special Education from a regionally accredited College or University, a Valid Alabama Teaching Certificate in Special Education, and five (5) years of successful teaching experience in Special Education.
