GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This role is responsible for providing maintenance support for the Sun Link Streetcar system. The individual in this position will independently carry out skilled electrical, electronic, and mechanical tasks under general supervision. Responsibilities include diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, rebuilding, overhauling, servicing, inspecting, and testing streetcar transit vehicles and their associated electronic systems. Additionally, the technician will handle the testing and repair of communication systems, surveillance equipment, and other related devices. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to work autonomously for extended periods.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should possess a high school diploma or equivalent; an Associate degree is preferred along with two years of relevant experience. A valid Arizona driver's license is required, along with the ability to pass the Arizona DOT medical/physical examination and pre-employment drug screening. Successful completion of training programs, including a post-training qualification period, is essential. The technician must also be capable of being re-certified periodically on Standard Operating Procedures and through examinations on all regulations and hands-on proficiency. Clear and concise report writing skills are necessary, and availability for weekends, holidays, evenings, and late-night shifts is expected.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The technician will perform safety and preventive maintenance inspections on vehicles, systems, and equipment. Responsibilities include documenting defects, maintenance activities, and repairs. The role involves testing, maintaining, repairing, and overhauling streetcar vehicle electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems in accordance with schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, operational manuals, and manufacturer instructions. The technician will operate and maintain shop equipment and tools, and must have a personal toolbox on-site with specific tools. Responsibilities also include estimating time and material costs, maintaining records, re-railing equipment, and repairing or modifying electronic and electrical components. Troubleshooting of analog and solid-state electronic systems, installation of special electronic testing systems, and servicing of microprocessor control systems are also key functions. The technician will inspect new systems installed by contractors, calibrate and repair test equipment, maintain parts inventory, and operate computers for testing, diagnosing, fault log management, and data input and retrieval. Maintaining a safe and clean work environment is essential, as is preparing various activity and status reports, documenting defects and repairs on inspection forms, work orders, or designated computer programs. Availability for weekends, holidays, evenings, and late-night hours is required.
