Jefferson County, Colorado is seeking a skilled Natural Resource Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our ecological team, you will play a vital role in preserving and protecting our natural resources.

Job Summary:

  • Assist with vegetation inventory and monitoring efforts in varied landscapes, including identifying native and nonnative plants using dichotomous keys.
  • Collect and disseminate natural resource data and information, preparing natural resource management plans based on sound scientific and biological principles.
  • Operate specialized heavy and light power equipment, hand tools, and data collection devices in the performance of invasive species control, forest management, ecological restoration, wildlife management, inventory and monitoring of natural resources, and related work.
  • Train staff and assist with supervision of park technicians and provide public outreach and communication with other work units, departments, and agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Vegetation Inventory and Monitoring: Assist with conducting vegetation surveys, identifying plant species, and collecting data for analysis.
  • Natural Resource Management: Develop and implement plans to manage natural resources, including invasive species control and forest management.
  • Public Outreach: Engage with the public, provide education and outreach on natural resource topics, and respond to inquiries.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other teams, including ecology, planning, and operations, to achieve shared goals.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field such as wildlife ecology, biology, natural resource management, or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience in a related field, preferably in wildlife conservation and management, natural resources, or a similar field.
  • Experience with ArcGIS software, including mobile mapping software (e.g., ArcGIS, Collector).
  • Ability to safely navigate mountain roads using trucks and potentially UTVs, and hike long distances over rough terrain using GPS or other navigation tools carrying personal supplies and project gear.
