About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Natural Resource Specialist to join our team at Jefferson County, Colorado. As a key member of our conservation team, you will be responsible for assisting with vegetation inventory and monitoring efforts, identifying native and non-native plants, and preparing reports based on sound scientific and biological principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with vegetation inventory and monitoring efforts in varied landscapes, including identifying native and non-native plants using dichotomous keys.
  • Establish and collect vegetation data from monitoring transects and plots at varying levels of detail depending on project needs.
  • Work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary ecological team.
  • Quickly learn and follow complex survey protocols.
  • Assist with other related tasks, potentially including invasive species management, data entry, and public outreach.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in wildlife ecology, biology, natural resource management, or a similar field.
  • 1 or more years of work-related experience in wildlife conservation and management, natural resources, or a similar field.
  • Experience with field identification of native and non-native plants of Colorado.
  • Experience conducting vegetation inventory and monitoring.
  • Experience with ArcGIS software, including mobile mapping software.

Working Conditions:

This position operates on a four-day work week (Monday-Thursday, 7:00am-5:30pm). Due to the nature of the role, remote work is not an option. You must be able to safely navigate mountain roads using trucks and potentially UTVs, and hike long distances over rough terrain using GPS or other navigation tools carrying personal supplies and project gear.
