Position Summary
PSPM is seeking a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) - AutoCAD and Graphic Specialist who will collaborate on campus architecture, learning environment and signage projects by developing and drawing conceptual design studies that incorporate research-based campus standards and contextual design. The position is for a 50%/20 hours per week appointment from September to December 2024 with the opportunity to work a 50%/20 hours per week appointment in Spring Semester 2025 and 40 hours per week Summer 2025. This position is open to students with an F1 visa and may potentially offer a full tuition waiver starting in Fall 2024. This position is a great opportunity for students to perform meaningful work and acquire professional experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
The GRA will be responsible for preparing and delivering sketches, high-quality visual renderings and presentations in support of the university's mission and design standards.The GRA will also assist in managing the learning space database by determining the information that is needed, gathering/organizing the information and designing/creating reports.In conjunction with the database, the GRA will assist with field investigation of UIC's centrally scheduled classrooms and oases to assess the condition of the space (floors/walls/ceilings), systems mechanical/electrical/ plumbing/data) and FFE (furniture/equipment/artwork).The GRA will assist with compiling the assessments, reporting related issues and confirming their resolution.Other tasks will include developing reports, presentations and graphics in support of projects and initiatives and other related tasks as assigned and assisting in the maintenance of the university's design standards.Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Position is open to graduate students who have prior experience in architecture such as an undergraduate degree in architecture and are also in either the Architecture or the Project Management Master's programs
- Prior experience with AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Rhino or SketchUp and Microsoft Excel is a must
- The ideal candidate should be a resourceful self-starter, with an excellent academic track record, who can work independently
- Prior experience in data collection/organization and field investigations of campus spaces including learning environments, grounds, and interior public spaces is preferred
- Experience with Revit/BIM and rendering software (VRay or Lumion) is a plus
- Prefer first year graduate students in a two-year program or second year graduate students in a three-year program
