VNS Health is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Behavioral Health team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to individuals and families in need.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply your lived experience and expertise to navigate complex systems and provide support to clients and families.
  • Assist clients in obtaining and maintaining entitlements, including Medicaid, Public Assistance, and SSI.
  • Conduct interviews to gather personal histories and understand social and emotional factors related to mental health problems.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans to meet clients' needs and empower them to take control of their lives.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care and identify solutions to support clients.
  • Provide linkage, coordination, and referral to other service providers, and monitor appointments and follow-up care.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Credentialed family peer advocate preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in social work, health and human services, or a related field preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience in a mental health or social service setting, with emphasis on family support services and/or family psycho-education.
  • Lived experience as a caregiver for children with behavioral health needs, in accordance with the New York State Office of Mental Health and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
