Job Title: Citywide Mental Health Coordinator

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Citywide Mental Health Coordinator. This role will play a critical part in supporting the Bureau of Mental Health in achieving its mission to protect and improve the health of all New Yorkers.

Job Summary:

The Citywide Mental Health Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) program, which enables individuals with serious mental illness to live safely in the community and access comprehensive outpatient services. This role will involve reviewing court-ordered transport requests, coordinating logistical issues, conducting investigations, and facilitating the admission process at psychiatric hospitals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review court-ordered transport requests to ensure compliance with legal standards
  • Coordinate with AOT teams, Care Coordinators, and law enforcement agencies to ensure smooth transport of individuals to psychiatric hospitals
  • Conduct investigations into missing individuals and communicate with family members, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders
  • Accompany individuals and law enforcement to designated receiving hospitals
  • Facilitate the admission process by sharing clinical information and safety concerns with hospital staff
  • Provide follow-up information to AOT teams and healthcare providers as needed
  • Document all investigation and transport actions
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A master's degree in social work or a related field
  • At least 4 years of experience in public health, medical, or psychiatric social work, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or administrative capacity
  • Ability to obtain a Certified Social Worker (CSW) certification within 18 months of appointment
Preferred Skills:

We are looking for candidates with knowledge of Assisted Outpatient Treatment, mental health treatment services, and the service delivery system. A Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university is preferred.

Residency Requirement:

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
