Job Title: Senior RD Engineer Mechanical

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior RD Engineer Mechanical to join our dynamic team at LG Magna EPowertrain USA. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in the development of our power electronic modules and components for EV vehicle development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Select and facilitate long-term research projects with academic partners to improve access to emerging technologies.
  • Perform advanced development activities of power electronic components for existing products and future technologies.
  • Act as the main point of contact for technical issues between our customers and global HQ, including participating in, facilitating or leading PDT reviews.
  • Provide status reports to customers, suppliers, and internal groups, as requested.
  • Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis for issues over the life of a program.
  • Work with customer, supplier partners, and internal staff to prepare designs.
  • Develop and ensure adherence to engineering and design standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist planning and sales to ensure current and accurate costing.
  • Understand RFQ requirements and when to apply FEA.
  • Produce mechanical drawings and designs.
  • Eliminate part defect and errors utilizing latest error proofing concepts.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in development engineering in the automotive industry.
  • Basic designing skills and understanding of 3D CAD tools/2D Drawing.
  • Skill in determining and understanding of differences in product design according to materials and manufacturing methods.
  • Knowledge of rough part cost estimation and understanding the cost-driving factor in terms of mechanical designing.
  • Knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
  • Ability to travel up to 10% for customer sites and business meetings.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and exercise discretion while performing job tasks.
Preferred and Desired Qualifications:
  • Prior experience with an Electric Vehicle (EV) Tier 1 supplier.
  • System-level understanding of Power Electronics components with Mechanical interfaces.
  • Technical expertise in Inverter, OBCM, APM, Traction motor, Battery, and processes.
  • Ability to be self-driven, results-oriented with a strong sense of initiative in tackling complex tasks.
  • Ability to learn quickly with the willingness and flexibility to learn and adapt to company working culture and processes.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand customer needs and to probe for answers, and then determine a solution and advocate that solution to the customer.
  • Ability to work with customers and internal stakeholders and make sure all deliverables are met.
  • Capacity to identify risks and raise issues to relevant stakeholders.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to maintain deadlines.
  • Knowledge of OEM process and requirements.
