Job Summary

The City of Tampa Florida is seeking a highly skilled Public Safety Telecommunicator I to join our team. As a Public Safety Telecommunicator I, you will be responsible for providing critical support to our emergency response team by receiving, processing, and prioritizing emergency and non-emergency calls for service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service, including 9-1-1 calls
  • Prioritize and document calls for service, including relaying information to the appropriate public safety response unit
  • Operate and monitor two-way radio channels, computer-aided dispatch (CAD) monitors, and other related communications equipment systems
  • Process complaints and make referrals on a broad variety of public safety matters
  • Summarize critical information for public safety first responders in the CAD system
  • Receive requests from law enforcement, fire/medical personnel, and other public safety agencies to access, enter, retrieve, and disseminate data
  • Maintain service status of all mobile units for assigned area
  • Dispatch units by radio using signal codes
  • Record emergency calls or complaints, including type of service required, location, and identification of persons
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school
  • Possession of some typing or keyboard skills
  • Preference may be given to individuals with previous experience or who are bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Preference may be given to applicants who are already state certified as 911 Public Safety Telecommunicators or to individuals with previous dispatching experience
Licenses or Certifications

Successfully complete and maintain the State of Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunications certification

Examination

A pre-employment test is required for all applicants considered eligible per the posted minimum qualifications
