Job Summary

This is a challenging entry-level position in the Public Safety Telecommunicator series, requiring proficiency in performing tasks of higher than average difficulty. The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving, processing, and prioritizing emergency and non-emergency calls, relaying information to the appropriate source, and performing related administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, gathering and documenting critical information
  • Relay information to the appropriate public safety response unit, including police, fire, and emergency medical services
  • Operate and monitor two-way radio channels, computer-aided display monitors, and other related communications equipment
  • Process complaints and make referrals on a variety of public safety matters
  • Maintain accurate records and perform related administrative duties
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Typing or keyboard skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a public safety communications role
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills
  • State certification as a 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator
