Job Overview

Position Title: Technical Designer

Role Summary:

Our client is in search of a dedicated and skilled Technical Designer who will play a crucial role in transforming design concepts into high-quality, manufacturable garments that embody the brand's aesthetic and design principles. As a vital member of the Technical Design team, you will facilitate fit sessions, relay fit session outcomes to vendors to guarantee precision in garment measurements, fit, construction specifics, and the flow of information while addressing any technical hurdles throughout the development and production phases.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:

Reports to: Technical Design Manager

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the product lifecycle from initial sketch to production fit approval.
  • Manage the creation of initial sample specifications based on design sketches.
  • Responsible for detailed fit corrections, including sketches of pattern adjustments, digital images, comprehensive grade specifications, and written feedback.
  • Foster a close collaboration with the Design team to interpret design concepts, ensuring design integrity and optimal fit and functionality of the product.
  • Organize, prepare for, and conduct fittings on live fit models to assess and enhance fit, construction, and quality.
  • Timely execution of fit comments to keep the fit process aligned with production schedules and objectives.
  • Assign appropriate grading to all measurement points and provide grading guidelines to vendors post-fit approval, ensuring accurate grading to maintain design integrity and fit across all sizes.
  • Review samples against Tech Packs and BOM prior to fittings.
  • Conduct wear tests and discuss results with teams to determine subsequent steps.
  • Measure fit models bi-weekly.
  • Adhere to departmental timelines and T&A.
  • Exhibit a team-oriented mindset, maintaining clear communication and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Conduct competitive analysis research.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in Technical Design and/or Patternmaking.
  • A college degree or equivalent professional experience is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of grading, garment construction, sewing, measuring, and fitting.
  • Familiarity with pattern making is advantageous.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Proficient in PLM, Illustrator, and Excel.
  • A collaborative team player with problem-solving skills, a passion for product development, and a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with live fit models is essential.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
