Job Overview

Position Title: Technical Designer

Role Summary:

We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Technical Designer to play a pivotal role in transforming design concepts into high-quality, manufacturable garments that align with the brand's vision and aesthetic. As a key member of the Technical Design team, you will facilitate fit sessions, communicate garment specifications to vendors, and address any technical issues that arise during the development and production phases.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to the Technical Design Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the product lifecycle from initial sketches to production fit approvals.
  • Manage initial sample specifications derived from design sketches.
  • Implement detailed fit corrections, including sketches of pattern adjustments, digital images, comprehensive grading specifications, and written feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with the Design team to ensure the accurate interpretation of design concepts, maintaining the integrity of fit and function.
  • Organize and conduct fittings on live fit models to assess and enhance fit, construction, and quality.
  • Timely execution of fit comments to align the fit process with production schedules and objectives.
  • Assign appropriate grading to all measurement points and provide grading guidelines to vendors post-fit approval, ensuring accurate execution to maintain design integrity across sizes.
  • Review samples against technical packs and bills of materials prior to fittings.
  • Conduct wear tests and analyze results with teams to determine subsequent actions.
  • Measure fit models bi-weekly.
  • Adhere to departmental timelines and targets.
  • Maintain a collaborative team mindset, ensuring clear communication and cooperation with cross-functional teams.
  • Conduct competitive analysis research to inform design and production strategies.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in Technical Design and/or Patternmaking.
  • A college degree or equivalent professional experience is required.
  • Strong understanding of grading, garment construction, sewing techniques, measuring, and fitting.
  • Knowledge of pattern making is advantageous.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Proficient in PLM software, Illustrator, and Excel.
  • A collaborative team player with strong problem-solving abilities, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Experience with live fit models is essential.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
