Position Overview

The primary objective of this role is to supervise, deliver, and coordinate nursing services in accordance with organizational protocols and to assess residents' healthcare requirements, taking appropriate measures. The Practical Nursing Specialist will attend to individuals who are unwell, recovering, or in need of care within the facility. This position may operate under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.

Supervisory Duties: None - may oversee the activities of CNAs, PCAs, and/or RAs during the shift.

Financial Accountability: None

Key Responsibilities
  • Administers prescribed medications, accurately documenting times and dosages in residents' records.
  • Monitors residents, documenting and reporting any changes in their conditions, such as adverse reactions to medications or treatments, and takes necessary actions.
  • Responds to residents' requests for assistance and determines the appropriate support needed.
  • Measures and records vital signs including height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
  • Provides fundamental resident care or treatments, such as taking temperatures or blood pressures, dressing wounds, treating bedsores, administering enemas or douches, massaging, or performing catheterizations.
  • Collaborates with a healthcare team to assess resident needs, plan and adjust care, and implement interventions.
  • Evaluates the outcomes of nursing interventions, consulting with other healthcare team members.
  • Assembles and utilizes medical equipment such as catheters or oxygen supplies.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs other assigned tasks as necessary.
Requirements

Essential Qualifications

Education: An Associate's degree in Nursing or equivalent is mandatory.

Experience: Prior experience in performing essential job functions is preferred.

Certification/License: A valid Ohio Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing is essential. Candidates must obtain and maintain CPR certification within 90 days of employment. Compliance with state background check standards is required for continued employment. Completion of first aid training as mandated by the Ohio Administrative Code within 60 days of hire is necessary.

  • Ability to stand, walk, ascend/descend stairs, and transport carts weighing over 100 pounds, as well as move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Capable of moving residents as necessary, stretching, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, crouching, kneeling, and balancing to access all resident body parts, observe skin color, and detect vital signs and equipment alarms/messages.
  • Ability to operate a computer, read, remain stationary, and engage in conversation with others.
  • Legibly complete forms and perform data entry tasks. Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Ability to converse with others, write clearly, read, and comprehend written/verbal information. Communicate instructions or demonstrate tasks effectively.
  • Lift and carry up to 35 pounds frequently; up to 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Stand and walk frequently, sit for prolonged periods; perform simple grasping and fine hand manipulation; possess near and far vision; hear conversations; and speak clearly.
