Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Lab Technician to join our team in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. The successful candidate will assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the lab under Dr. Cowardin's supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in microbiological and immunological techniques to study the gut microbiome and its interactions with the maternal and infant immune system.
  • Conduct bacterial culture and sequencing, prepare and maintain gnotobiotic/germ-free mice, isolate samples from mice, and perform cell and protein quantification.
  • Contribute to laboratory maintenance, including assisting with environmental health and safety compliance and maintaining mouse colonies.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of lab experience, which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree.
  • At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.
