Job Title: Lab and Research Technician 2

The Commonwealth of Virginia seeks a highly skilled and motivated Lab and Research Technician 2 to join our team at the University of Virginia. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research in the field of neuroscience.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform complex technical support for projects and participate in scientific experiments.
  • Coordinate and participate in routine technical duties, providing assistance to clinical and research staff.
  • Evaluate research methods, procedures, and techniques based on established objectives.
  • Provide basic assistance to researchers in manipulating, computing, and analyzing data using specialized statistical computer software.
  • Perform surgical procedures on small lab animals.
  • Assist in training other staff members on procedures and supervise students or volunteers.
  • Develop new strategies and techniques for experimentation with Principal Investigators and senior staff.
  • Provide routine technical and administrative support to research projects.
  • Coordinate schedules with study subjects, handle information intake, and record and track results.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in a related field.
  • At least 2 years of lab experience, which may include student experience. A Bachelor's degree in a related science may be considered in lieu of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in molecular biology, electrophysiology, imaging, and MATLAB-based programming and data analysis.
Physical Demands:

This position requires extensive periods of standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Keyboarding and other bench work are also required, as well as finer finger manipulation for animal procedures.
