Overview:

AIT Worldwide Logistics is on the lookout for an Air Freight Import Specialist I who will manage the daily importation of international freight forwarding shipments into and out of the USA across various modes of international transport based on client requirements. The primary objective of the Air Freight Import Specialist is to ensure exceptional operational performance and deliver a premier customer service experience to all clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive and authenticate customer orders (Cargowise Org, Credit, Import POA, Restricted Commodities, Cargo Value, Embargoes/Sanctions, Additional Services, Documentation Requirements, Incoterms)
  • Determine optimal routing/transit options per customer specifications/SOP
  • Proactively secure quotations from vendors/agents for all potential order expenses
  • Provide customer or overseas office/agent quotations & confirm acceptance
  • Receive and validate customer documentation
  • Monitor and confirm flight arrivals and update system milestones
  • Issue Arrival Notices and distribute according to customer requirements
  • Coordinate inland transportation with subcontractors if necessary
  • Track and confirm shipment arrivals to final CFS (if applicable)
  • Obtain Pick Up numbers from carriers & forward to relevant parties (if applicable)
  • Ensure timely delivery/release of cargo and update system milestones
  • Accrue all costs in CargoWise and conduct initial profitability assessments
  • Confirm final costs, ensuring all are accrued and final profitability checks are completed
  • Generate invoices for customers/overseas offices as required
  • Distribute documents as per shipper requirements/SOP
  • Manage customer reporting and/or additional system milestones as necessary
  • The compensation range for this role is $40.77 and may vary based on geographic location as well as relative knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience.

Additional Skills We Value:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 0-2 years of experience in freight forwarding preferred
  • Basic math and geography skills
  • Ability to analyze numerical data, understand components, relationships, identify patterns, and draw conclusions
  • Basic knowledge or willingness to learn CargoWise preferred
  • Basic understanding or ability to learn freight movement, air vendors, airspace configurations, container loads, special loading constraints, regulatory requirements, pricing, service routings, AIT product offerings, equipment types, incoterms, and shipment profitability
  • Basic knowledge or ability to learn country regulations and AIT policies & procedures that minimize risks to the customer and company
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations using units of currency, weight, volume, and distance measurements
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret verbal and written requests/directions
  • Effective communication and interaction skills with a variety of individuals; capable of presenting information in one-on-one settings
  • Strong time management skills to meet customer deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment
