JOB SUMMARY

Acts as a working supervisor who organizes the general cleaning of a secondary educational facility for the evening custodial team while ensuring adherence to sanitary and operational standards.

- Evenings/Nights
- Inclement weather
- Summer hours

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Guides staff in the effective use of building services, supplies, equipment, and environmentally friendly cleaning methods.

Conducts inspections of all work performed by the night shift team and maintains documentation of area inspections, training, and inventory management.

Operates and maintains powered equipment for scrubbing, waxing, and buffing floors, as well as vacuuming and cleaning carpets according to established guidelines.

Safely operates heating, air conditioning, and ventilation systems within the facility to ensure a comfortable environment for occupants while protecting the building and its equipment.

Performs minor maintenance tasks such as clearing clogged plumbing fixtures, replacing light bulbs, fuses, and ballasts, as well as conducting preventive maintenance on building equipment and furniture.
Locks and unlocks buildings and gates for evening events, monitors daily security (including weekends and holidays), and responds to emergencies as needed.
Oversees snow removal operations, ensuring walkways are clear and safe.
Completes other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To succeed in this role, candidates must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- Two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience preferred;
- One (1) year of professional cleaning or building equipment service experience preferred;
- One (1) year of experience with heating and cooling systems preferred.

Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job effectively.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Preferred supervisory skills.
- Ability to cultivate leadership skills to motivate and support team members.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and familiarity with cleaning products and equipment.
- Competence in orienting and training new staff.

Ability to prioritize tasks, especially during peak periods, utilizing sound judgment in applying standard operating procedures.


- Ability to inspect, monitor, and coordinate activities while providing constructive feedback to custodial staff.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining various custodial tools and equipment.
- Commitment to safe work practices related to custodial responsibilities.
- Ability to accurately maintain basic records.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations.
- Proficiency in business technology tools as required.
Must provide personal basic hand tools as necessary.
Licenses and Certifications:
Employees must maintain active licenses and certifications as a condition of employment.
Preferred: Hold or be eligible for a 4th Grade Stationary Engineer License issued by the Maryland Board of Stationary Engineers; or
Complete the Introduction to School Facilities Boiler Plant Safety & Procedures Certificate issued by AACPS or an equivalent course; and
Successful completion of Leadership Training or Certificate Course issued by AACPS or an equivalent course preferred.
