Medical Laboratory Technician

This role is pivotal in applying extensive technical expertise to laboratory testing, ensuring clinical relevance, and demonstrating advanced problem-solving capabilities. The individual will act as a key resource within the laboratory, ensuring adherence to all relevant accreditation and regulatory standards. Responsibilities may include the collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens.
Key Responsibilities
1. Conducts laboratory tests with precision and efficiency, adhering to established protocols and performance benchmarks. This includes managing the initiation, calibration, and accuracy of testing procedures and equipment. Engages in departmental problem-solving initiatives, utilizing advanced decision-making skills.
2. Monitors and validates test results, ensuring the accuracy of findings. Actively participates in identifying and documenting any deviations from standard procedures. Engages in quality assurance and process improvement activities to enhance departmental productivity and quality metrics.
3. Oversees inventory management and contributes to financial assessments for the laboratory. Actively involved in initiatives aimed at improving financial performance, reducing costs, and enhancing service delivery.
4. Contributes to departmental projects and participates in the training of new staff. Engages in committee work or special projects as designated by management. Aware of the medical and legal implications of professional actions.
5. Serves as a resource for educational outreach, providing information to both internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills and actively participates in team meetings.
6. May be responsible for processing and preparing patient samples, ensuring proper identification and integrity of specimens.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in medical laboratory science or a related field, OR
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science with relevant certification.
- Foreign candidates must provide a credential evaluation to establish eligibility.
- For specific specialties lacking certification, a bachelor's degree with relevant experience is required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy when applicable.
- Certification in medical laboratory science or related fields.
- Basic understanding of specimen requirements and medical terminology.
- Experience in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
- Additional relevant education or experience.
