Responsibilities may include the collection, processing, and analysis of biological specimens.
Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct laboratory tests with precision and efficiency, following established protocols and performance metrics. Responsible for the initiation, calibration, and validation of testing procedures and equipment. Engage in problem-solving initiatives within the laboratory, utilizing advanced decision-making capabilities. Exhibit proficiency in all laboratory information systems and demonstrate a deep understanding of testing theories and clinical significance. Assist in maintaining compliance with regulatory bodies and accreditation standards. Take on leadership responsibilities in the absence of supervisory personnel.
2. Identify and validate abnormal test results, ensuring the accuracy of findings. Participate in the documentation of any deviations from standard procedures. Engage in quality assurance and process improvement activities, contributing to the monitoring of departmental productivity and quality indicators.
3. Manage inventory effectively and assist in providing financial insights for the laboratory. Actively contribute to initiatives aimed at enhancing financial performance, reducing costs, and improving service delivery.
4. Participate in departmental projects and training programs. Engage in the onboarding and competency assessment of new staff, providing valuable input for performance evaluations. Complete necessary training modules for new or transferred personnel.
5. Serve as a resource for educational information, effectively communicating with both internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills. Participate in staff meetings and exhibit mentorship and coaching abilities, fostering a positive learning environment.
6. Process and prepare patient samples as required, ensuring accurate patient and specimen identification and maintaining specimen integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in medical laboratory science or a related field, OR
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline with certification in medical laboratory science.
- Foreign-educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from a recognized agency.
- For specific specialty areas, a bachelor's degree with relevant experience may be required.
- Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy where applicable.
- Certification in medical laboratory science or related fields.
- Basic understanding of specimen requirements and medical terminology.
- Previous experience in phlebotomy and laboratory processing.
- Additional relevant education or experience.
