Position Overview
This role involves executing both waived and non-waived laboratory tests in compliance with CLIA '88 standards, ensuring accuracy and timeliness under supervision.
Department Overview
As part of the laboratory team, you will assist in maintaining compliance with all relevant laboratory accreditation bodies and regulatory mandates, including CLIA '88, JCAHO, CAP, and OSHA.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct tests with precision and promptness, adhering to established protocols and performance benchmarks.
- Oversee the initiation, calibration, and validation of laboratory procedures and equipment.
- Utilize independent judgment to identify necessary resources for fulfilling assigned tasks effectively.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of the theoretical and clinical significance of laboratory testing, addressing routine operational challenges as they arise.
- Exhibit proficiency in the laboratory's computer systems, performing basic troubleshooting as needed.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards relevant to your responsibilities.
- Recognize and validate abnormal patient and quality control results, ensuring the accuracy of all test outcomes.
- Contribute to the identification and documentation of procedural deviations, implementing appropriate resolutions.
- Manage the use of laboratory supplies efficiently, assisting with inventory oversight and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Actively engage in departmental projects and training initiatives, demonstrating leadership in the absence of supervisory staff.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with both internal and external stakeholders, fostering a collaborative work environment.
- May involve processing and preparing patient samples, ensuring correct identification and specimen integrity.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field.
- Equivalent laboratory training and experience as defined by CLIA regulations.
Foreign-educated applicants must provide a detailed credential evaluation from a recognized agency. Competency in phlebotomy is required where applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is preferred, along with a foundational understanding of specimen requirements and medical terminology. Previous experience in phlebotomy and laboratory processing is advantageous.
