Job Overview

Position: Undergraduate Clinical Intern (School-Based)

Location: Denver, CO

Role Summary

Tennyson Center for Children is in search of dedicated clinical intern candidates who are currently pursuing an accredited bachelor's degree and are aiming to fulfill their internship requirements during their final year. Under the supervision of the university program, the intern will provide direct support to clients in educational settings, complete necessary program documentation, and assist educators in the execution of classroom activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a passion for working with children and adolescents who may have experienced challenging situations or may have intellectual or developmental disabilities, including Autism.
  • Assist clients in the classroom to help them complete their assignments and engage in essential activities.
  • Collaborate with school-based Youth Treatment Counselors (YTCs) to ensure accurate daily documentation and address client needs.
  • Participate in classroom discussions to evaluate client progress and requirements.
  • Uphold the highest standards of cultural sensitivity in all interactions with clients and staff.
  • Facilitate Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) or other group activities as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Engage in agency-wide meetings and training sessions as appropriate.
  • Be open to utilizing various therapeutic methods, including art, music, experiential activities, and animal-assisted interventions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to apply behavioral management techniques when necessary.
  • Must be capable of receiving detailed information through verbal and written communication.
  • Visual acuity is required to read and comprehend written materials using computers and other devices.
  • Must be able to lift 25/50 lbs. or more.

Work Environment

  • This position requires in-person attendance, with potential remote work approved by the intern supervisor.
  • Work settings include on-campus educational environments, residential settings, and home-based settings.
  • Travel may be necessary depending on the specific program requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's program related to Human Services at an accredited institution.
  • Previous experience working with families and children is preferred.
  • All candidates must undergo a criminal background check, fingerprint check, child abuse check, driving record check, drug test, physical examination, academic credential verification, and reference check.
