Internship Overview:
The intern will collaborate closely with the Volunteer and Intern Programs Coordinator to oversee the volunteer and intern initiatives while engaging the community to support our mission. Responsibilities include assisting with the recruitment and onboarding processes for new volunteers and interns, as well as facilitating training sessions and ongoing development opportunities. The intern will partner with direct service staff to identify and fulfill volunteer and intern requirements, and will also contribute to community outreach efforts and special events.
Time Commitment: 12 hours per week; Weekly schedule to be determined by supervisor and intern during business hours, M-F 9 am - 5 pm
Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship
Location: Hybrid; in-person at the IRC office and remote
Key Responsibilities:
- Process incoming volunteer/intern applications, conduct phone interviews, and manage onboarding paperwork.
- Collaborate with IRC staff to identify volunteer/intern needs.
- Create materials to assist staff in training and managing volunteers.
- Represent IRC Denver at recruitment events.
- Provide support to volunteers and interns.
- Assist in managing community contacts and partnerships, service days, and volunteer events.
- Conduct new volunteer/intern orientations.
Learning Objectives:
The Volunteer Program Intern will gain insights into the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program and understand how services are delivered to refugees in Colorado. The intern will observe how volunteers, interns, and community members play a crucial role in the resettlement process and in achieving resettlement goals. This position offers the opportunity to learn about managing a comprehensive volunteer and intern program, including aspects of recruitment, training, and ongoing support.
Qualifications and Required Skills:
Undergraduate, Graduate, or recently graduated student in an institution of higher learning.
Ability to work independently and proactively.
Strong writing and communication skills.
Experience in speaking and presenting to groups.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders (volunteers, clients, staff, community partners).
