Role Objective

The Child First Clinician collaborates with a Family Support Partner to connect with families referred for home-based interventions. The core mission of Child First is to enhance the caregiver-child bond, acting as a protective buffer against stress while promoting the child's emotional, linguistic, and cognitive development. Utilizing a trauma-informed approach, the Clinician implements a relationship-focused, dyadic treatment model that emphasizes the primary attachment between the child and caregiver. This role involves engaging both the caregiver and child in a nurturing, reflective, and exploratory manner, fostering a supportive parent-child dynamic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Child First family and Family Support Partner during the comprehensive family assessment process, gathering insights through interviews, observations, and standardized assessments.
  • Utilize gathered information to create a comprehensive clinical formulation and Child and Family Plan of Care in partnership with the Family Support Partner and family.
  • Deliver home-based psychotherapeutic interventions for young children and their caregivers, employing relational and dyadic psychotherapy techniques.
  • Assist caregivers in gaining insights into their personal histories, emotional connections to the child, and current parenting strategies.
  • Provide crisis intervention support during urgent family situations, in consultation with the Family Support Partner and Clinical Supervisor.
  • Conduct mental health and developmental assessments and offer consultation within early childhood education settings.
  • Utilize video recordings to enhance therapeutic engagement and reflective supervision.
  • Participate in weekly individual and group reflective clinical supervision with the Clinical Supervisor.
  • Actively engage in all components of the Child First Learning Collaborative, including training sessions and specialized workshops.
  • Maintain thorough documentation for clinical accountability and reimbursement purposes.
  • Contribute to various clinical and administrative activities as necessary.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Minimum of three years of experience in therapeutic work with culturally diverse children and families, particularly in parent-child therapy and play therapy for ages 0-5. Previous training in CPP is highly regarded.
  • Willingness to learn, ability for self-reflection, and enthusiasm for participating in reflective clinical supervision.
  • Understanding of relationship-based interventions, early childhood development, attachment theory, and the impact of trauma on child development.
  • Experience in providing mental health assessments and consultations in early childhood education environments.
  • Familiarity with working with adults facing mental health, substance use, and cognitive challenges.
  • Experience delivering interventions in diverse home and community settings.
  • Proficiency in a second language (Spanish) is highly valued.
  • Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, reliability, and flexibility in work hours.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable using computers and proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Possession of a reliable vehicle and appropriate insurance for home visits.

Educational Requirements:

  • Master's degree in social work, clinical psychology, or a closely related field is required.
  • Preferred: Colorado licensure (LPC, LCSW, LMFT).

Work Environment

This position operates in a dynamic office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment. Regular travel may be necessary for meetings and training sessions. The role may involve exposure to various environmental factors and potential contact with individuals facing mental health challenges.

Physical Requirements

This is primarily a sedentary role, but may require extended periods of standing or sitting, as well as the ability to lift 10 to 25 lbs. unassisted.
