The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) coordinates patient care, following established standards of practice within state and federal guidelines. This role provides mentorship to non-nursing personnel, serves as a resource to staff and management, and is responsible for checking schedules, organizing patient flow, and preparing patients for physical exams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Initial patient interview, reviewing medical profiles, and documenting pertinent information
  • Obtaining and accurately documenting patient vital signs, weight, and reporting abnormalities to physicians
  • Assisting with specimen collection and testing, providing minor treatment as directed by physicians, and assisting with minor procedures
  • Providing education to patients and families, documenting all patient-related activities, and scheduling patient testing and pre-certifying insurance requirements
  • Responding to telephone messages, checking for expired supplies and medication, and maintaining inventory and exam rooms
