FOOD SERVICE WORKER III

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of the Food Service Director, oversee the operation of a middle school lunch serving area and snack bar.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Positions in this classification are responsible for the effective management of lunch serving facilities and snack bar operations at a middle school. Additionally, incumbents supervise one subordinate worker and 8-12 student workers, while also performing various food preparation, serving, and cleaning tasks.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

1. Prepare the snack bar and lunch serving areas for daily operations.
2. Heat and assemble a variety of food items including hamburgers, corndogs, pizzas, spaghetti, chili, nacho cheese, garlic bread, hot dogs, and burritos.
3. Prepare salads, fruits, and other items for boxed lunches for the cafeteria.
4. Heat and serve lunches delivered from the Central Kitchen.
5. Handle cash and lunch tickets while maintaining accurate records.
6. Order, track, and store supplies for the snack bar and cafeteria.
7. Determine food combinations for boxed lunches and assemble them accordingly.
8. Review snack bar inventory and complete cash accounting forms.
9. Supervise and assist in the cleaning of utensils, dishes, trays, and food service equipment.
10. Complete monthly payroll forms for student workers.
11. Count cash or verify counts and prepare daily bank deposit forms.
12. Maintain records and generate reports as needed.
13. Communicate with parents and staff as necessary.
14. Hire student workers and oversee the completion of required employment documentation.
15. Perform related duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Basic principles of supervision and training; methods for preparing, packaging, and serving food in large quantities; kitchen utensils and equipment; food handling practices and kitchen sanitation; cleaning and maintaining food service areas, utensils, and equipment; basic arithmetic.

ABILITY TO:

Operate kitchen appliances and equipment found in school cafeterias and snack bars; maintain accurate records; follow oral and written instructions; read and write at a level necessary to perform the duties outlined; establish and maintain effective working relationships; supervise others; accurately count money and supplies; adhere to schedules; work under deadlines and time constraints.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to two years of experience in preparing and serving large quantities of food. Coursework in food service preparation, sanitation, and safety is desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Food preparation environment subject to heat, lifting, bending, and standing.

Requirements / Qualifications

Two letters of recommendation
California Driver's License. High School Equivalent.
Preferred experience in food service/production.
Completion of Mandated Reporter Training is required before the first day of employment.

Work Week: Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 2:30 pm
