Role Summary

The Supplemental Speech Language Pathologist is tasked with assessing and rehabilitating patients across all age groups who experience communication and swallowing disorders stemming from functional or neurological issues. This role is crucial in fostering the development and maintenance of effective communication and swallowing skills. The incumbent will meticulously document evaluations, progress, and provide guidance to both patients and their caregivers. Additionally, the therapist will offer recommendations and support to speech therapy staff and management in program development. Mentorship and oversight of assistants, students, interns, and rehabilitation technicians regarding patient care will also be key responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough evaluations of patients referred by physicians, accurately interpreting findings.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Regularly reassess patient progress and adjust treatment goals and plans as necessary.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and professional colleagues.
  • Document all patient interactions and treatment plans in the medical record with precision.
  • Act as a clinical resource and mentor for staff, interns, and students.
  • Participate in program development initiatives within the department.
  • Engage in community service and represent the profession at various functions.
  • Contribute to the professional development of the team by facilitating training and education.
Qualifications
  • Education: Must possess a Master's degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited university.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid license to practice speech/language pathology in Texas; certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association; Basic Life Support certification.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and train staff or supervise clinical interns.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and communicate proficiently in both written and verbal formats.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds.
  • Prolonged standing, frequent walking, stooping, and squatting.
  • Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination are essential.
