Position Summary

The Supplemental Speech Language Pathologist plays a crucial role in assessing and rehabilitating patients of various age groups who experience communication and swallowing disorders stemming from functional or neurological issues. This position involves documenting patient progress, providing guidance to patients and their families, and collaborating with the speech therapy team to enhance program development. The therapist will also mentor and oversee the training of assistants, students, interns, and rehabilitation technicians in relation to patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough evaluations of patients referred by physicians, accurately interpreting findings.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on evaluation results.
  • Regularly reassess patient progress and adjust treatment goals and strategies as necessary.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Document all patient interactions and treatment plans in the medical records accurately.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for interns and less experienced staff.
  • Participate in departmental program development and community outreach initiatives.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and organizational policies to ensure quality care.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and education to enhance clinical skills.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure to practice speech/language pathology in Texas.
  • Certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Preferred experience of at least one year in a clinical setting.
  • Strong mentoring and leadership skills.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with patient care.

This role is essential in promoting effective communication and swallowing abilities in patients, contributing to their overall well-being and quality of life.
